    Conducting Internal Investigations - An Overview and Practical Considerations

     

    Proactively developing and managing employee relations and internal investigation has never been more critical for organizations in every industry. In this program, you will gain knowledge of the process for planning, conducting, and concluding investigations involving employees. This includes managing the cycle of an investigation by preparing an interview strategy, planning and conducting the actual interviews, preparing documentation, reaching a conclusion, and closing out the investigation. Applying these methods are critical for effectively handling investigation and conflicts. 

    As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the key steps that comprise a successful internal investigation

    • Identify facts and consequences of those facts, recommendations, and implementation practices for an internal investigation

    • Have a deeper appreciation for the importance of thoughtfully planning and implementing an internal investigation

    • Learn how a properly conducted investigation can help mitigate legal risk

Managing Partner, Ken Somers, is especially adept at coaching HR Business Partners to enhance their organizational impact. He is dedicated to delivering answers for the real world.

    Ken’s career spans more than 40 years as an HR practitioner and executive leader. In addition to his domestic experiences, he has lived and worked in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, India, and Malaysia. He recently completed his most recent assignment as the interim country head for an insurance company’s back office operation in Poland. Ken’s vast international experience enables him to bring a multicultural and multigenerational perspective to solving client challenges.

    Angela Scott, Director, Employee Policies & Practices
    Bob’s Discount Furniture

    Angela D. Scott is a Human Resources Executive and Employment Attorney with over 30 years of experience in a variety of Fortune 500 organizations including UTC, MassMutual, Sony Electronics, and Chiquita Brands. She has also been a litigator on behalf of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. . Her most recent position is as the Director of Employee Policies and Practices at Bob’s Discount Furniture. She has an undergraduate degree from Amherst College and a juris doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law. She is admitted to the bar in the states of New Jersey and Ohio.

    Her expertise is primarily focused on employee relations and HR compliance including affirmative action, equal employment opportunity, investigations and policy development. She has developed and led internal HR audit teams that have resulted in the reduction of risk to organizations and the increase in proactive approaches to enhance employee engagement. Over her career, Angela has been the lead on over 100 OFCCP audits and conducted countless internal investigations in a range of type, complexity and scope.

    In her spare time Angela is actively involved in her alumni association and church. She enjoys reading, theatre, movies, and travel. She is mother to one daughter and one “fur-baby.”
