Please join SMA for a 2023 Labor Market Update with Patrick Flaherty, Economist with the CT Department of Labor - "Nothing is Certain except Uncertainty"

    • Economic update on where things stand currently with the national and state economies with regard to:

      • Employment and unemployment

      • Performance of Connecticut industries

      • Demographics of those who are in (and who have left) the labor force

      • Job openings and unemployment insurance claims

      • Inflation and interest rates

    • Discussion of forecasts and projections

      • Many other economists and experts believe the U.S. economy will avoid a recession in 2023 and that the Federal Reserve and other policymakers will successfully engineer a “soft landing”

      • Which set of experts is correct will determine the course of Connecticut’s labor market over the next year.

Patrick J. Flaherty is Director of Research at the Connecticut Department of Labor.   His previous position at DOL was as an economist where his responsibilities included industry and occupational projections.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies from Harvard University and his Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Connecticut.  He is also Adjunct Faculty at UConn where he is teaching Principles of Microeconomics at UConn/Hartford.  Currently, Patrick is the Labor Commissioner’s designee as a member of the P20WIN Data Governing Board.  He is also the New England representative on the Local Employment Dynamics Steering Committee."
